Though you will need some dedicated training to properly make those repairs and replacements, you will be ready to call Pro Atlanta Roofing to hire a technician. Our qualified technicians are always happy to dispatch to your location and get repairs done right the first time around. Without further delay, here are the main components of your roof.
Shingles or Metal Sheeting
This is the part of the roof that most people are familiar with. The exterior layer of your roof is likely either made of asphalt shingles or metal sheets. As the exterior portion of the roof, the layer of shingles or metal sheeting are most prone to damage from the elements such as hail, snow, rain, and so forth. Typically, asphalt shingles will last around fifteen to twenty years before needing to be replaced while metal sheeting can last as long as seventy years! Still, keep your eye out for missing or peeling shingles, signs of rust, and other damage. The sooner you get repairs done, the better.
Roof Flashing
Professional roofers have thought of many possibilities. Roof flashing is a thin material that roofers install to direct water away from critical areas of the roof. They are installed around roof features such as vents, chimneys, and skylights. If there were no flashings at these points, then water could drip into crevices and seep into the walls and ceilings of your home. In fact, damaged or improperly installed flashings are one of the most common causes of roof leaks.
Underlayment and Decking
The decking of the roof is the foundation upon which the underlayment and the shingles are installed. We consider the decking to be the main structure of the roof, holding up all of the other parts. It is usually made of plywood or OSB, but some commercial roofs use concrete or metal.
Underlayment is the layer between the decking and the asphalt shingles. The underlayment is laid to improve water resistance and should not have any issues unless water has leaked passed the shingles, at which point it is time to call the roofing technicians at Pro Atlanta Roofing.
Joists and Support
Wood and metal joists form the support structure of the roof. These are the bones of your roofing. The wood or metal joists keep your roof firm against high winds and other pressures. Depending on the type and size of the building, these joists may be angled or flat.
Insulation
The roof keeps the elements out of your home and the insulation of the roofing keeps the hot or cold air inside your home. Without quality insulation, you can see your building’s energy efficiency drop dramatically. Though there are many types of insulation, fiberglass is probably the most common in our experience.
